GLASS IN THE GARDEN

This series of visceral photographs invites us to consider who our children could become without the burden of our generational curses. Symbolizing purity and innocence, the dwarf white rose represents our descendents. The dirt is our ancestors and the lineage that made our existence possible. The glass is the transgenerational trauma we pass down when we can’t break destructive cycles.

Erosion is the Earth’s way of violently pushing things to the surface. The blood dripping from the petals and returning to the soil represents the loop beginning again. We have to ask ourselves: what caused the wounds in our families and what trials are we willing to face to stop the bleeding?

Ellie Kay is a multidisciplinary artist whose work explores the way we translate lived experience into storytelling. Working primarily in photography, she creates series and immersive installations that examine the relationship between the body, identity, and transformation, often drawing from themes such as morals, ethics, and civic obligations. Her unfolding projects continue to explore the liminal space between who we are and who we want to be. Her art frequently centers the inner world, offering space for individuals to challenge conventional narratives.
